In daguerreotypes it is common to see pictures of subjects holding a daguerreotype in their hands. In some cases the subject posing is staring at the picture she is holding, sometimes looks directly to the camera. No matter what, one can say that the mise-en-scene in such images, is designed around the act of looking inviting the viewer to acknowledge the presence of someone that is not present anymore. Such images suggests the death of someone loved and make sure that the lost one is not forgotten. Such photographic objects are like a kind of statement that the subject in the picture is also wanted to be remembered as remembering the loved one. After all those things that we have experienced recently, It is such a relief that, today, I do not not have to hold a photo of my father in my hands, yet.
